tinker bell 1/2 marathon

this past weekend i flew down from cold, gray utah, to sunny, warm california for my very first half marathon! i was nervous for this day to come. to be honest, i trained very, very, very little, and had been somewhat sick most of january, but the day came and it was fun.. in a semi miserable way. kelly, kristen, & shannon also ran in it!
the half was at disneyland, which definitely made it really fun. we started off by running towards disneyland & throughout the whole park! they had characters out in their costumes, music playing, & people taking your picture throughout the race (i tried my best to get into as many pictures possible), after we left disneland it was near mile 5, and we then ran around anaheim, there were so many people lined up & watching us, it was pretty neat. there were high school cheer teams, dance teams, high school bands, an army band, all lined up in different places to keep us hyped up & motivated. the last stretch was running through california adventure, and once that happened i was thrilled because i knew that it was just a matter of minutes before i could sit down & be done!
there were also a lot of people dressed up which was really fun. it was cool to see all the different costumes they came up with. kelly was captain hook & her costume was awesome. kris was snow-white, & shannon & i were tweedle dee & tweedle dum. there were a lot of tinker bells, i saw a queen of hearts, the 3 fairies from sleeping beauty, caution cones from toy story, & many many more. kelly & kris were in higher level corrals, but luckily shannon and i were able to run in the same one. there was so much hype going on, everyone was very supportive, & it was really nice to have one of my bff's in the some corral as me to run with. she helped to make it more fun cause we could talk to each other, and when mile 12 came & i was 100% over running, she kept me going.
i was in such terrible pain once i crossed that finish line. the last thing i wanted to do was walk, my legs were achy, my knees didn't want to bend, & i'm positive i got the biggest blister i have ever had in my entire life, right on the tip top of my big toe (it was the shoes, at least thats what everyone says). now thats it's done with, i'm really happy i did it. a half marathon was never something i thought i would do, i'm not a runner by any means, but looking back i actually enjoyed it.. despite the pain. i'm so proud of shan for running it too! & for sticking by me the whole time. & really proud & impressed by kelly & kris. they both did so well! it was also fun to see my sister in her "element" she's all about running & i can see why.. the hype is so energizing, plus, she runs a lot so she's fast & doesn't feel a lot of pain anymore. she's awesome. i'm planning & hoping for this to inspire me to keep running & get in better shape, maybe even sign up for another one!

this weekend is the half disney marathon i signed up for in august.
i'm a little excited & pretty nervous.
tomorrow is the last day i'll be able to run in utah before heading home for the big race.
& maybe the last day at all unless i find some time in the few days before while i'm home
i'm excited to see everyones costumes they come up with.
as for me & my running partner we'll be going as tweedle dee & tweedle dum!
i think our costumes are going to be pretty fun & i'm anxious to see them
all put together!

last saturday all i wanted to do was go to color me mine. i wanted a new mug & i wanted to paint. after some convincing we went & spent about 3 hours of our afternoon painting away. we were both really into it. we picked up our cups on thursday & i loved mine! p.s. please excuse the language in any following pictures.

this christmas one of my favorite gifts i got was a new bicycle (my last one got stolen). it was exactly what i wanted. i wanted to put it together right then & there, but had to wait until i got back to utah.

i anxiously awaited my bikes arrival & once it came i was so excited.

& lucky for me, it was extremely warm for january, so i got to ride it around once or twice before it got freezing cold again.

today i was searching for a picture of the grateful dead's dancing skeleton. as some of you may know, i'm really into skeletons, skulls, bones.. that kind of thing (not in a creepy way) & i like the grateful dead. plus they have a cool symbol of a dancing skeleton. while on my search i came across this sticker

you may wonder why this sticker caught my attention. well, when i was really young my dad gave me this exact sticker, except it didn't say grateful dead on top. i stuck it on my closet wall, as a little kid would, & ever since i'd look at it & think it was such a strange sticker that my dad gave me. i always wondered where on earth he got it & why he even had it. come to find out.. 14 or 15 years later.. it's a sticker from one of his favorite bands. i think it's kind of cool to now know where it came from.

winter break was so nice. it was great to get away from the cold and go home to the warmth & sunshine. it was perfect. i was old friends, the sibs, went to the zoo, disneyland, venice & the beach as many times as i could. it was warm enough for me to put my boots & sweaters on the shelves and break out an old pair of shorts & any other spring/summer weather clothes. it was great. i love christmas in california.

most of my major disappointments have turned out to be blessings in disguise. so when anything bad does happen to me, i kind of sit back & feel, well, if i give this enough time, it'll turn out that this was good, so i shouldn't worry about it too much.

2011 was a good year & a lot has happened in it

here's the run down:

started 2011 in hawaii

8 friends got married

3 of my closest friends announced pregnancies

traveled between 5 different states

& around 5 different countries.

all in all, i'd say its been a pretty good year to me.

but i have higher expectations for 2012

i'm always kinda of sad once christmas has actually happened, because it's over. everyone begins taking down their decorations, lights go away, & christmas music isn't played. i can't be the only one that's sad about this. i love the month of december. getting ready for christmas, decorating, driving around looking at lights, people buying loved ones presents, every one seems to be so.. jolly. i love it & am sad that this month is coming to an end! i hope everyone else had a christmas just as fun as mine!

ugly sweater party

last friday russell & kristen hosted an ugly sweater party. kristen made lots of holiday themed treats & we got the house all ready to go. it looked fabulous. everyone came and wore their ugliest & cheesiest holiday sweaters. we had a white elephant game (i got gold fish) & talked through the night. over all i'd say it was a success.i mostly took pictures of all the goodies, but there are more pictures of actual guests & their sweaters soon to come, just need to get the film developed!

one of my favorite parts of going home is always going to disneyland, especially at christmas. the happiest place on earth becomes so much happier, and much more magical with all the christmas decorations, music & lights. i love it & make sure to go every year around christmas. yesterday i went with shannon & my sister kelly & her kids came to meet us. it was so much fun.

while looking on this tumblr (you should check it out, it is my favorite one & where i find most of my cute pictures), i saw this picture.

i clicked the picture to see what site it came from & it came from a tumblr called etymologie. it's anthropologies tumblr. this was such exciting news to me. i, among most of my friends & basically all of my friends love anthropology with all my heart. i love everything about it. their clothes, shoes, beauty products, home items, lotions, magazines, pictures in the magazines... everything. this tumblr is about to be my new favorite site to gaze at.

i took an art class this past semester. every week we worked on a project, sometimes it would take two weeks. but all in all i'm going to say we did about 8 projects. apparently i took pictures of two actual projects & one drawing in my sketch book. i need to be more diligent about documenting these things...

the one drawing i have a picture of that i doodled in my sketchbook

my final project. it had to illustrate a dream. either a dream we have about the future, or an actual dream. this is taken from a dream that i have had. the hands symbolize the character trying to reach someone/something that they can't, & the black dripping paint illustrates the feelings i have after i wake up & think about my dream. i start off remembering it really well, but throughout the day & over the time it changes and parts start to fade away.

this project was on rhythm. we were supposed to create something based off of a song & show the movement we felt when listening to the song. the song i chose is linus space head by the wavves, & the lyric i wrote says :
my feet are asleep, my hands chained to clouds.
my toes, are marble stones sinking in the sand.
i'm stuck in the sky i'm never coming down.

it's that time of year again & i couldn't be more excited. i'm sure some people aren't to excited for it to be winter, not just because it's freezing & there's snow, but because their friends all disappear & go snowboarding all day everyday. but this is my favorite time to be in utah. last year i developed a strong love for snowboarding & it's still there. there's just something about being with my friends snowboarding that is so much fun & makes us all a little closer. the boys may not realize it, but it's true. i'm really excited for this season too because i won't be the only girl up there with all the boys! i have 2 girlfriends that will also be there. it'll be a little different from what i'm used to but just as much fun.

about a month ago h&m made their grand opening in utah, leaving all shoppers anxiously excited. & i am now one of those shoppers. i recently found out about the new line based off of the new movie girl with a dragon tattoo & i cannot wait to see it in person...i also can't wait to see the movie...but the new line looks amazing to me. i'm all about it & am excited to go check it out!

chicken pot pie

some of my friends have decided to have a weekly dinner party. every week we switch off making the meal. this week was the first time we did it & we decided to go first with chicken pot pie & peach cobbler!

the chicken pot pie called for:

1 lb chicken breast

1 c sliced carrots

1 c green peas

2-3 small potatoes or 1 c celery

1/3 c butter

1/3 c chopped onion

1/3 c flour

1/2 t salt

1/4 t salt

1/4 t pepper

1/4 t celery seed

1 3/4 c chicken broth

2/3 c milk.

2 pie crusts

we used a deep dish pie for the bottom & normal for the top

heat your oven to 425

in a large pot, combine chicken, carrots, peas & potatoes. add water, cover & boil till potatoes are soft. remove from heat, drain & set aside.

in the saucepan over medium heat, cook onions in butter until soft & translucent. stir in flour, salt, pepper &celery seed. stir in chicken broth & milk. simmer over medium-low heat until thick. remove from heat & set aside.

place the chicken mixture in bottom pie crust, pour hot liquid mixture over & cover with top crust, seal edges & make small slits along the top.

bake in oven for 30-35 minutes.

the original recipe found for chicken pot pie called for celery & celery seed. not everyone wanted celery so we substituted the celery with potatoes & we couldn't find celery seed.. so we used celery salt. also! instead of boiling with water, we used chicken broth to add more flavor & thickness. last but not least, before putting into the oven, we coated the top pie crust with egg yolk to get a golden brown color on top.

it's delicious. & really easy to make. the trickiest part was adding the top pie crust without it breaking, but it's possible!

last night i went to a 20's themed murder mystery dinner party & it was so much fun. everybody was assigned characters with a background story & secret information that we weren't allowed to tell anyone until we arrived. everyone was really into it, everyone had great costumes & really got into character. it was crazy to hear about everyones character stories & what information they knew after the party.. there were so many side stories happening that i had no clue about. my role was baroness ravioli, father of don "big jim" ravioli. big jim was the first one murdered so his murderer was who we were trying to figure out. it was really fun. i found 2 weapon cards so i even got to murder people. we could black mail, pay people off, whatever we wanted to receive information. in total the game took a little less than 2 hours, and was completely worth it.

we played in an apartment building that requires a key, or for you to be buzzed into the elevator that opens right to the apartment. right by the end, the elevator door opened and in the corner was a naked baby doll that was distorted & partially melted. everyone was freaked out & couldn't figure out who it was or how they got into the elevator. a few minutes later someone came running through the apartment with a hockey goalie mask and hoodie. of course all of us girls screamed, and some of the boys looked nervous but a few of them were in on the prank & laughing. turns out it was one of the hosts brothers & his girlfriend playing a prank on us. pretty good.

saturday night my friends & i wanted to go to a halloween party. none of us had costumes, or really wanted to dress up so with just a little face paint, hoods & glitter and we became day of the dead skeletons. we danced around the party & had fun spooking people on the streets.

last saturday, october 18,2011, two of my most favorite people in the world got married in the draper temple. it was such a happy fun day. so many people that haven't seen each other and love each other so much in one place is always so magical. i love weekends like these that bring us all together. i wish i had more photos to share, but i decided to put down my camera for the rest of the night to enjoy the party. it was beautiful. they're reception was at the manor at thanksgiving point and was really fun. everything looked beautiful, their colors were wine red, cream & gold. it was beautiful.

last night i went disco skating

for the first time in my life.

growing up i could never really roller blade.

so whenever i've been invited disco skating i wouldn't go,

it was great.

mt timpanogos

today i set out to hike the 11,749 ft that make up mt timpanogos. blake, tayler & nate were the other hikers. we met eachother at 7, drove to the mountain, got there round 745, set out on the trail near 815. it was a good hike, it really worked me. i thought i was going to die due to the elevation level. it was quite the challenge, but a lot of fun. we hit the summit near 1230, hung around there & had lunch, then headed back down the mountain.

we got a bit lost in the beginning.. but stumbled across this lovely waterfall

snow cave that we stumbled across! i was so excited! the cave goes down what appears to be forever.

i'm convinced that sasquatch lives there.

i want to make one of these. i found them green wedding shoes.

To create the planters:

1. Draw a rectangle the size you want the planter to be to serve as the cutting guide.

2. Use an exacto knife to hollow out a 1-2 inch deep space where the plant will be. Then seal that with the modgepodge.

3. To further protect the book, place a layer of cling wrap in the space and sprinkle a layer of succulent potting soil. Plant your succulents along with moss and fabric flowers and you’re done!

last tuesday blake & i set out on a road trip all the way to utah. it wasn't anything too exciting or different from the normal drive, until we hit vegas.

b: "did you know the hoover dam is like, 30 minutes that way?"

k: "really?"

b: "yeah. it's really cool."

k: "didn't they have an episode of looney tunes there?"

b: ".....really? ... maybe...?"

k: "yeah, i'm pretty sure they did."

b: "i don't know ker.. but it's that way."

k: "alright, we're going."

that's when i turned into a typical tourist.

we went and saw the hoover dam (it was really cool), & after that we had to stop and take pictures at every state sign we passed.

unfortunately we missed the utah sign.

it went a little like this..

b: "uhh... hey, ker.. we just passed the utah sign. i didn't know if you wanted me to wake you up for it or not.."

k: "so instead you woke me up immediately after we passed it...?"

b: "uhh..... yeah...."

k: "thanks for ruining this whole experience."

don't worry, it was all in jest (mostly) & we still are friends & love eachother.

last wednesday my friends & i went beach camping.

i'm going to go out on a limb & say beach camping is the best kind of camping.

it was a lovely couples retreat.

luckily for me traci agreed in coming camping, otherwise i would have been the total 5th wheel.

we all had a blast. we went down to onofre state beach so the boys could surf in the am.

it was already dark when we got there, so we got down to business.

we (the boys) pitched the tent, we (the boys) lit a fire, & we (the girls) made soo many s'mores.

then the boys serenaded us & we told spoooooky stories before we went to sleep.

all the necessities for a perfect camping trip.

i just signed up for the tinkerbell 1/2 marathon.

this past week has been busy & fun. shayla & dave were both at my house so the three of us went on a few adventures, mainly to the fashion district. it was great. we also made it fishing off of santa monica pier, to the getty, & dave & i went down to sd for a wedding.

this past friday my brother rus & kris got married! i could not be happier for them. they both looked great on their big day & were so happy & excited. they put together such an amazing wedding, it was one of the funnest & prettiest ones i have ever been to. they got married in the los angeles temple, followed by a ring ceremony & reception at saddle rock ranch in malibu. everything down to the last detail was great. hip hip hooray for the newlyweds!

this past weekend i went up to cambria for kristens bachelorette party. it was a lot of fun. we headed up friday afternoon, stopped by santa barbara for a late lunch then continued on towards cambria. we were able to stay at kristana's moms house (kristens maid of honor), it was such a cute little place we all fell in love with it. before arriving we stocked up on loads of sparkling cider type drinks so we can mix and match different flavors for a mellow, girly night in that we had friday night. saturday we drove up to the coast to big sur & then onward to carmel where we had a spa day. the drive was unreal, i loved every second of it. after the spa day we went back down to cambria where we went out to dinner & heard live music played at a local hotel. this morning we woke up, cleaned up & went into town for breakfast and a bit of shopping. all in all it was a really fun weekend. i loved going up there & seeing all the places i always hear about. can't wait to go again.

aint this the truth? life wouldn't nearly be as fun or exciting without any of these.

it's the simple things that are the best if you ask me. summer wouldn't be the same without late night swims. life would lack passion if it weren't for those deep kisses, we would be nowhere if we didn't go on adventures, & we wouldn't be as close with the ones we love if it weren't for ramblings. a perfect friend is someone i can ramble on with & not worry whether i'm boring them or not. i'm ready for to set out on a great adventure.

the other night i went to a glow in the dark party with some friends & we went in style. one of my friends came up with the idea of glow stick people. we wore all black, got a couple packs of glow sticks, taped them onto our bods & we were done. it was simple, quick & a lot of fun being a glow stick person. we were a hit. if you need a cheap costume, do this.

it was my big brothers birthday last week & i had told him i was planning a great present for him. i hardly think he suspected a terrarium. he's big into planting things & that sort of thing now-a-days, so i thought he would appreciate my thoughtful gift.

it was pretty easy to put together, just took me a while to find a bowl to put it in. originally i planned on making three smaller hanging terrariums, but i couldn't find any little glass guys that i could hang. i settled on a big fishbowl.. that didn't really look like a fishbowl. i went to home depot and picked out a few succulents (they're less maintenance & easy to have indoors), got the soil, picked up some little rocks from the pet store for added decor, and bam. i got myself a terrarium.

yesterday i was able to go to the los angeles temple to see one of the favorites good married. i am so so happy for these two, they are both amazing & i love them.

their wedding was simple & beautiful down to every single detail.

these are photographs by rick schultz. i love the color in these & the modern/classic mix together. these rooms have so much character to them. the flooring in all of the pictures is to die for, it looks amazing. & i love the black wall color with bright accents in the first two pictures. the burst of color lets the room come off a lot brighter than you would imagine with such dark walls. & the door in the last picture made me really happy. i love them all.

i really want to start a book club.

i told my mom about it, & told her that if the book club idea fails,

that i would start writing up my own book reports (nerdy but it sounds fun to me)

i love reading & analyzing books.

& i would love to talk them over with other people

it sounds so fun to have others insights and views besides my own!

that's why i want to start the book club! it'd be great.

i mean, i already make notes all over my own books, so may as well share them with people..

the other week while i was cleaning out my bedroom i found an old roll of film stuffed away in a box. i don't think i had used my film camera since my junior photo class, so i was really excited to see what could be on the film. today i finally took it in to get developed & to my excitement the film was from a trip to italy & switzerland my family took the summer after my sophomore year of high school. the pictures were fun to go through, i really liked these ones.

the twilight zone

my senior year of highschool a friend of mine forced me to watch the twilight zone marathon with him (it happens twice a year, january & july 1), & ever since i've loved it. not many people are that in to the twilight zone & not many people my age even know what it is, they just think you're talking about Twilight.. but it's nothing like that. before i came home for a summer my friend proposed the idea of having a twilight zone marathon since we both love it. we kicked it off monday night & got 7 episodes in, that's right. we dedicated 3.5 hours of our lives to straight twilight zone & it was amazing. i can't wait to watch some more. the show is just so great. it's creepy/eery, it's got the old scary vibe, unlike today's scary movies that are all about gore. it's actually artistic & makes you think. i admit, i don't understand the idea behind some of the episodes, but i love watching it none the less. not to mention the beginning, it's such a perfect sound & rod serling's voice is amazing. some episodes just stick with you. what are your favorites?

today was my first day of work at anthropologie. i was nervous & excited to start, plus i had to find something to wear which was scary in itself.. anyways, work was great. i'm excited to go back & actually work rather than training. it's a such a creative work environment, always so much going on. i feel like i really learned a lot about the store & company today which makes me that much more excited to be working there.

while i was in brugge with the ladies, we came across an extremely quirky looking shop that we thought would be interesting to check out. this store had some of the weirdest yet coolest household items. i was pretty enthralled with everything they had to offer, especially a nose statue i stumbled upon. you slide the legs of your glasses in-between the nose & the stand and you've got yourself a lovely glasses holder. i love these things. they're funny & it makes sense, especially for someone that loses glasses cases as soon as they get them (me) plus, they're cute.

i haven't been able to find these exact nose eyeglass holders, but there are a load of different variations. click here to check some of them out!

summertime automatically means swimsuits to me. i know that for the next 4 months i will wear a swimsuit at least 3x's a week, if not more. pool parties/bbq's, spa sessions, tanning, & the beach are all constants during my summer. i have always been into finding the perfect bathing suits. perfect fit, shape, style, color, pattern. i'm into it all.

this year while paroozing the internet i came across a new brand to me: tavik. they've got rad swim designs. their prints & mix n' match style are what first caught my attention, then the shapes got my attention. they're what i'd consider perfect. they don't stay with the traditional bathing suit, but they still offer them. they're more out of the box & i dig it.

spring clean

this past week whit has been here. it's been a lot of fun.

tuesday: picked her up from airport. got lunch with my bro. went to a movie with my ma.

wednesday: went to spin class. went to lunch with my ma & her bowling team. shopped a little at the mall. i had a job interview at this place. went to another movie.

thursday: we three girls went down to my sisters place. got waffles at bruxies in orange. went shopping with the ladies.

friday: woke up & both decided i needed to de-clutter my room to de-clutter my life (whit had some fancy yogi thing behind this thought, i don't remember. i just agreed cause my room hadn't changed since i was in 5th grade). we started to de-clutter. took a break & went to yet another movie. went to see where my bro & his fiance are having their wedding reception (it's beautiful!). went out to dinner.

we had a relaxing & busy past few days. it's always so much fun when whit comes to town. & her help cleaning my room was perfect.i said goodbye to my barbies & stuffed animals that lined my room. threw out some stuff, but put the goods up in my closest. cleaned out & organized my closet so i could fit all of my clothes in their with room to spare. reorganized my book shelves & made it look nicer & a lot tidier. it was a whirlwind of a day. we did a lot of cleaning. lucky for me i had whits motivation to keep me going, otherwise i would have stopped half way through & called it good (i have a lazy side). my room looks a 10000x's better. a good deep spring cleaning is always necessary.
